Exploring light and surface

My art journey began with completing an Honours degree in Ceramics, where I developed a strong interest in material processes and specialised in slip-cast porcelain. After graduating, I travelled and lived abroad in London, Paris, and Bangkok, working as a secondary school art teacher. These experiences exposed me to new ways of thinking about art, which continue to influence my practice.

I am currently based in Townsville, working as an art teacher in further education while maintaining an active studio practice from my home. I work across painting and ceramics, using both polymer synthetics and oils alongside mid-fire porcelain. Across all mediums, my practice reflects a balance between technical skill, observation, playfulness, and personal response to place.

Colour & Light

My painting style is expressive and observational, balancing representation with abstraction. I use colour intuitively, layering warm and cool tones to describe light, depth, and surface. Paint is applied in visible, confident brushstrokes that remain deliberately present on the surface.

My work is strongly influenced by coastal landscapes, particularly the light, colour, and sense of space found near the ocean.
